Evaluate/Improve Relationships

Cheryl L. Wheeler, MA
Couples Counseling, Gottman Method

Gottman Relationship Method

The Gottman Method. It’s possible to evaluate your relationship to recognize areas for improvement, as well as recognize areas of strength! The *Relationship Checkup is comprised of five sections:

  1. Friendship and Intimacy: relationship satisfaction, emotional connection, romance, and admiration
  2. The Safety Scales: trust, chaos, commitment, and emotional philosophies
  3. The Conflict Scales: stress, relationship harshness, and conflict management
  4. The Shared Meaning System: shared rituals, values, and goals
  5. Individual Areas of Concern: individual issues, safety, sex, depression, drug and alcohol use, violence, anxiety, and other issues that may need psychological or psychiatric help

When both you and your partner have completed the questionnaire, your  provider receives the results. They can then review it with you and provide actionable recommendations for therapy.

FAQ - Relationship Checkup

It’s possible to evaluate your relationship to recognize areas for improvement, as well as recognize areas of strength! Contact me today to learn more!

The *Relationship Checkup is comprised of five sections:

  • Friendship and Intimacy: relationship satisfaction, emotional connection, romance, and admiration
  • The Safety Scales: trust, chaos, commitment, and emotional philosophies
  • The Conflict Scales:  stress, relationship harshness, and conflict management
  • The Shared Meaning System: shared rituals, values, and goals
  • Individual Areas of Concern: individual issues, safety, sex, depression, drug and  alcohol use,  violence, anxiety, and other issues that may need psychological or psychiatric help

The  questionnaire in composed of 480 questions and takes approximately two hours to complete. You can take a break any time by logging out and back  in, returning to where you left off. When both you and your partner  have completed the questionnaire, your provider receives the results. They can then review it with you and provide actionable recommendations for therapy.

FAQ:

Can my partner and I see one another's answers while I am taking the test?

No. Before you start the assessment, you will each create a separate online profile with a unique login and password. Neither of you can access the other’s information at any time, and we encourage you not to share your  login information with your partner in order to preserve the integrity and effectiveness of the questionnaire.

Will I get a copy of my results?

When  you and your partner have both completed your individual assessments, a  thorough analysis of your relationship - including your scores - will be uploaded to your therapist’s dashboard. Your therapist will then be  able to review the analysis with you and discuss any suggested steps for  improving your relationship. Please ask your therapist for his or her policy about providing you with a printed copy of these results as it  varies among clinicians and practices.

I want to use Relationship Checkup to access my relationship without going to a therapist. Can I do this?

No. The Relationship Checkup is a tool designed for use by clinicians in a therapeutic setting with couples.

What security measures are in place for the Relationship Checkup?
